BAGHDAD, Iraq April 6 —
U.S. forces made a second incursion through Baghdad on Sunday,
destroying and seizing Iraqi armored vehicles, and missiles streaked
across the skies, artillery thundered and the crackle of heavy
machine gun fire grew more intense.
U.S. troops were conducting "what we would call armored raids
right now," Gen. Peter Pace, vice-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, said in an interview Sunday night EDT with CNN.
He said forces have driven though portions of the Iraqi capital,
seizing "significant numbers of coalition tanks and armored
personnel carriers" and "destroying all of the enemy vehicles and
personnel with whom they've come in contact."
"One of the points is to destroy the enemy that we found, and the
last two raids have been very, very successful at doing that," Pace
said.
